Barack Obama is POTUS.
Hundreds of thousands of people were already converging on Grant Park in Chicago before the election was called. Wow, that must have been an incredible sight to behold. I wish I could have been there. I love to be part historic crowds like that. The crowd that heard Barack's speech was estimated at 500,000.
I thought at first that they would almost all be Black people, but the crowd contained just about anyone you could possibly imagine - including a very large number of Whites. His speech was very good, he called McCain a war hero and complimented him in other ways he probably does not deserve, and so was the crowd, as nary a boo was heard. But it's easy to be magnanimous in victory.
The election had not been called yet, and I was driving around town running errands. The radio was on again, and they were going to John McCain speaking in Arizona. This early, with the polls in California just closed, there could only be one reason for that.
I listened intently as John McCain got to the punch. Congratulating Barack Obama for winning the election to POTUS. A chorus of boos flooded out McCain's voice and he tried to hold them back, but they kept on booing. Later, he mentioned that Obama was now McCain's President, and McCain was ready to serve him. Boos again. Every time he mentioned Barack's name, the boos poured out.
I think McCain is going to resign his Senate seat. Despite a charitable and honorable concession speech, I feel that at core, he's still a nasty little man. He reminds me of some folks close to me I can't name.
He wants the ultimate, and if he can't get it, he quits. Daddy was an admiral and John McCain always wanted to be an admiral. He couldn't get admiral, so he quit the Navy. He immediately ran for Barry Goldwater's Senate seat in Arizona, with an eye towards running for President. Although an effective Senator, he always really wanted to be POTUS. Now that he can't get it, I figure he quits the Senate. Any thoughts?
I used to have some respect for McCain for being the Republican version of a maverick. He's not a wingnut, and he never was. He hates those people, he has for years, and they know it. That's why the base has always hated him as a RINO. He especially despises the White Christian fundamentalist wingnuts, since he's a secular and reasonable man. This election, he ran as the as Wingnut Supreme, and I lost all respect for him.
At some level, you have to at least respect a man who has principles, even if it's Hitler. Give them less than 1% for that at least.
George W. Bush is what he is. He's a real wingnut. He really believes all that crazy religious crap. None of the traditional noblesse oblige of his family's, and his father's, white-bread East Coast Episcopalian elite for him. He moved to Texas and grew spurs from his shins. Bush is no pretender. He's the God of the Republican Base made flesh.
For running as the wingnut is not, never was, and never will be, McCain showed me that he ultimately has no values and no shame. In particular for running this uber-sleazy Rovian campaign. We expect it from W.; he's never made any pretensions to respectability or decency. McCain always acted like he was above all that. Guess not, when the throne itself is at stake. Too bad.
Soon after Barack was declared winner, thousands of Blacks were parading through the streets of West Philadelphia, the Black part of town. Good for them. It's certainly more commendable than rioting.
This is your day, African-Americans. Savor the historic moment.

A Defense of White Working Class Republicans
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.
Updated December 7:
Here.
Doesn't make much sense.
First of all, it starts out with a defense that the White working class is making an intelligent decision to vote on abortion, gay rights and the 2nd Amendment as opposed to economics. Not much to say to that.
Next he argues that Democrats don't really have the economic interests of the White working class at heart; in fact, Republicans do. This is the hoary Republican line, disproven endlessly, especially in these difficult times.
Finally he gets down to some red meat. Turns out that Republicans are better for the White working class because they support lax to nonexistent zoning regulations, which makes homes cheaper! This incredible argument is from none other than Steve Sailer, who apparently works for the Republican Party now. Sailer wants to have a truce with me, but I am thinking of unilaterally violating the cease-fire.
According to Sailer, the Republicans support something called "cheap family formation". A study of economic statistics over the past 30 years should disprove that.
Yeah, I've met so many working class Whites who vote Republican to eviscerate zoning laws so they can get a cheap house ! Lax zoning laws of course being a prime cause of crappy neighborhoods in the first place of course.
Next up. It's smart for the White working class to vote Republican an anti-immigration basis. Though both parties are horrible on this issue, the current Republican Party is one of the most horrible parties for immigration-restrictionists in recent memory. The Republican Party is for all intents and purposes an Open Borders political party.
Last, it's smart for the White working class to vote Republican because Democrats try to desegregate White schools. First of all, few actual desegregation efforts occur outside the South anymore. Second of all, they are ordered by judges, not federal, state or local officials. Third, I am not aware of the Republicans doing anything to stop desegregation of schools.

The "School Vouchers" Bullshit
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.
Updated October 16:
McCain's going on and on about school vouchers in the debate right now. It's a scam, a Republican scam. What's it all about? A lot of Republicans are rich. They send their kids to private schools. Even Republicans who aren't rich, still try to send their kids to private schools.
Only rich Americans, or those who really dig deep into their pockets, can afford to send their kids to private schools. It's a luxury. Ordinary Americans living sensibly within their means just can't afford it. So these rich people want the state to pay for them to send their kids to private schools, instead of paying for it out of their own pocket! What a joke!
The fact is that public schools in a lot of places in our country (perhaps not coincidentally, in areas with large Black and/or Hispanic schools) are not in very good shape. I taught for a long time in these schools. There is nothing wrong with the schools! They are out of money, but whose fault is that? The "vouchers" crowd doesn't want to give these schools one more nickel.
The whole problem with these schools is lack of money and the kids. Lack of money means these schools are falling apart, and a lot of them hardly even have textbooks. The books that exist are often old or partly destroyed. Who destroyed them? In some cases, the kids did. Who thrashed the schools? In some cases, the kids did.
There's no problem whatsoever with the either the teachers or administrators in these schools. I've worked with 100's of them and the vast majority of them are just fine. They deserve medals, not slamming. The Republicans hate no one in the US so much as our schoolteachers. The teachers are incompetent, and their unions are evil.
Supposedly, in a poorly functioning area, the private schools are better than the public ones. It's quite possible, but the only reason is because the private schools throw out all the knotheads! Anyone who fucks off, is disruptive or destructive just gets tossed. Public schools can't do that. We have to take everyone. We can hardly throw out anyone, or at least we hardly could when I worked there.
There is no a priori reason why a private school should be better than a public one. I taught in the public schools for years and I assure you that we are under a Hell of a lot of pressure on the job. Pressure from students, from other teachers and especially from administrators. We can't fuck off or screw up. The administrators are breathing down our necks all the time.
Many of the kids are scummy little brat shits who monitor our speech for the slightest little unacceptable comment and then run to the administration or Mommy and Daddy and say, "Teacher said bla bla bla".
The White kids are by far the worst ones of them all - and the wealthier the White kids are, the more evil they are. Hispanic kids were generally pretty good - at least, they seemed to have the same sort of "fear and respect the teacher" that my Mom did.
Blacks are sort of a mixed bag and you really have to watch what you say. They like to go running to Black administrators and teachers and say, "The evil White teacher said bla bla bla." Usually they try to construe something "racist" out of this. The Black teachers and admins, in too many cases, just back up the kids against Whitey, I guess on the basis of racial solidarity.
We've given these little bratty shits so much power that they think they control the schools and hire the teachers.
The real power in the schools is the parents. Parents act like they hire and fire the administrators and teachers and are always marching off to complain about this or that teacher. Why? Who the Hell knows? Usually it's, "Evil teacher picked on my precious little (devious and wicked brat) Johnny". Almost always White parents running off to bust the teacher too.
My Mom says that when she was in school, this was unthinkable. Only the most grotesque untoward behavior by a teacher would conceivably send them complaining to parents or administrators, and she can't think of one time when it ever happened. She said that if they ever would have come home to complain about the teacher, their parents would have defended the teacher and told them to shut up and knock it off.
They lived in fear of the teacher. Teachers were not supposed to be nice. You weren't supposed to like the teacher. The teacher was supposed to kick your butt and make your lazy punk ass learn something.
We teachers can hardly talk about anything. We can't talk about our personal lives and we sure as Hell can't talk politics. We can't talk about race, religion or all sorts of stuff. I was paranoid the whole time, watching every word coming out of my mouth, and the brats would still keep try to bust me.
There is also a problem with this whole debate. If kids aren't learning anything or are failing, it's the teacher's fault! Well, maybe in a few cases. In most cases, I say no way! Kids fail classes or don't learn either because they are dumb or because they fuck off and don't try.
There's no reason private schools are better than public schools, and the truth is that they are not. My father taught in private schools and they are a joke. I guess some of the really expensive ones are pretty good, but your average private school sucks education-wise.
They horribly underpay and overwork the teachers. They scrimp on everything, don't spend shit on the school and throw it all over to the teachers. My father was buying paper, pencils and all sorts of school materials because the school wasn't providing shit.
There were strict orders to pass X number of students and give most students A's and B's. If a teacher gave too many failing or low grades, he was threatened with being fired! The whole thing was one big fraud, a grotesque, cynical joke. The owners of the private school were rich shits who cared nothing about the schools and spend most of their time flying around in a private helicopter!
By all objective criteria, kids seemed to be getting a better education in my father's public school classes than in his private school classes.
Furthermore, the vouchers scam defunds the public schools at the same time that it increases that number of "special needs" kids, problem students, brats and fuckoffs (since these will all get kicked out of the private schools) while many of the better students will take off.
It's a recipe for destroying the public schools in the US. Yes, it is true, but the Republicans are so reactionary that they actually want to get rid of public education in the US or at least defund it so much that it doesn't work.
This whole "vouchers" debate has a Hell of a lot to do with race, but no one ever discusses that. I'm going to end this post here without spelling it out for you. I invite you to ponder the obvious fact that the vouchers debate here in the US, like so many things, is shot through and through with race.

Price of Oil Related to Supply and Demand?
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.
We have been over this and over this on this blog, but I thought I would toss this out.
The price of oil has collapsed recently from over $120/barrel to around $80/barrel. Wow!
Did that have anything to do with supply and demand? Are you kidding? Of course not. What happened? Speculative money poured out of commodities such as oil and back into ultra-safe investments like money markets and bonds. Supply didn't go up by one barrel. Demand hardly decreased at all. Supply and demand hardly has jack to do with oil and gas prices anymore.
It's important to note this because McPalin's whole agenda is Drill drill drill! Why? It's all based on the appealing lie that oil and gas prices anymore have the remotest relationship to either supply or demand. Since the prices of most other items are supply-demand related, and your average American idiocrat has figured that out., this argument has a logical intellectual appeal.
If we drill more oil, oil and gas prices will go down!
Says who? Says no one with any brains.
McCain tonite just said that if we start offshore drilling all up and down the coast of the US, this will lower oil prices, because "it will show 'them' that we are able to produce our own oil." I'm not sure what he means, but I assume he recognizes that all world oil prices are set on two oil bourses, one in the US and one in London. I guess that is the "them" he is referring to.
This implies that oil speculators see the slightest increase in oil supplies anywhere on Earth and start bidding down oil prices on the bourses the next morning.
GMAB!

The Republican Base
The latest death toll figures from Hurricane Katrina can be seen on this website here. The famous Russian neo-Nazi video is on this blog here.
Updated October 15:
The Base, summed up in a picture that tells a thousand words.
Jesus, man. GMAB. No wonder McShame is losing.
I mean, nothing against guys like this, but they just don't resonate with your average American, you know? And it seems like in past campaigns we saw fewer and fewer "God Hates Fags" guys like this out stumping for the Republicans. Instead of being a Party of Patricians and Plutocrats, the Republicans are starting to look like the Party of the Abnormal.
Evolve or go extinct, Republicans!

Bill Ayers, Rapist
Evidence here (Hat tip Entitled To An Opinion). I realize he's unrepentant about the bombings (Good for him!) but I sure hope he's repentant about this nefarious act.
It was long known that the New Left was full of a bunch of guys who spouted all the feminist bullshit when on prime time but when the doors were shut, were complete sexist pricks. "The best place in the movement for the women is on their backs." Geez, that's really crappy.
I still get chills thinking about Eldridge Cleaver, who was just nothing but a Black rapist criminal who especially loved to rape White women like so many Black rapists, defending rape (of White women) as an "insurrectionary act" in Soul on Ice. Oh, screw you, Eldridge. It's sad that books like that even got famous.
"I'm a Black criminal, I love to rape women because I'm evil, but the racist system made me rape White women." Nothing but criminals seeking to justify their behavior like they always do. Cleaver changed his name and calmed down.
Recall that I was a hippie back in the 1970's, when California dopers and longhairs looked up to a lot of these radicals like heroes. My friends were in the Brotherhood of Eternal Love in Laguna Beach where Timothy Leary and his pals cooked up huge doses of Orange Sunshine LSD and distributed it to the world. These guys were living in treehouses in Laguna Canyon in the 1970's and selling vast qualities of acid.
We ran around quoting Timothy Leary, Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman and believing that pot and psychedelics would transform mankind for the better.
I remember once I opened my top drawer and there were 1,000 hits of LSD in there. I ran around with pounds of psilocybin mushrooms in my briefcase, disguised as an office worker, or in my gym bag, disguised as a yuppie going to the gym. I never got caught and it was all in good fun. My friends knew Timothy and Rosemary Leary and used to hang out at his house in the Hollywood Hills.
I've known that Ayers raped a woman for some time now. I don't think I've ever done anything that evil.
I did support the Weathermen bombings though, and I still do. They only did property damage, they gave warning calls, and no one got hurt. In Summer 1980, I was riding around Long Beach, California on my bike, stoned out of my mind, with Prairie Fire Organizing Committee and a big red star scrawled on my t-shirt, pissing off rednecks.
Other than that, they were a bunch of New Left ultra-wackos. I recall a Weatherman standing up at some party meeting and saying that all White women must abort their White babies in order to drive the White race into extinction. This is where these clowns were really coming from. They were in with the really radical Black Separatist Black Power crazies from Day One.
One of their 1970's splits was called the George Jackson Brigade. All of the communiques of the George Jackson brigade are here (cool link!). I think that the GJB is nothing but the WU in the mid-1970's. As you can see, these nutjobs were allied with the Symbionese Liberation Army insane people. Patty Hearst and all that. It was a great time to be a Californian.
Note also where they say that 50% of the women in the movement were lesbians. Well, of course. That's one more reason these idiots leave me cold.
Jackson was some Black criminal who got sent to prison for armed robbery. While there, he turned into a radical and decided it was all the system's fault. Later, Angela Davis helped smuggle guns into a courtroom, and a judge got murdered. She got off, too, and so did her radical White attorney who smuggled the guns in in a wig or something.
Later, after more splits, the remains teamed up with Black Liberation Army separatist assholes, robbed a Brinks truck and murdered a cop and seriously wounded the Brinks driver.
As an aside, I used to subscribe to the journal of their above ground journal, called Breakthrough, published by the John Brown Book Club, in the late 1980's. The journal was actually OK. I subscribed just to piss off as many people as possible and as part of my ongoing effort to act as evil as I can legally get away with.
These guys were funny. I would write them a check for $6, and it would never clear. I would wonder what happened, until finally, 10 months later, they finally cash the $6 check. I guess they're a bunch of Commies who don't care about money.
PFOC is apparently still active in Seattle politics.
This interesting, but extremely radical blog seems to be coming from a similar point of view. They call themselves Maoist-Third Worldists. They often see workers in the First World as a de facto pro-imperialist grouping that is actively attacking Third World workers. I would not exactly put it that way, but sadly there is a bit of truth to that.
These characters are also some of the only folks out there anymore who will ferociously take on nationalism itself, not ultranationalism, not national-chauvinism, but, yes, nationalism itself, as a load of reactionary crap. There are times when I find myself nodding sadly.
They also say that what needs to be done is to get the Third World together and smash the First World. It's First World versus Third World, and it's a war, dammit. You find a lot of White nationalists on the Right insisting that this is the real Commie agenda, but I've been around Left circles for years and at least hardly ever heard anyone come out and say it. These guys are the real deal.
Does the Third World need to smash the Third World. As a 1st Worlder, I'm obviously biased. Um? I don't know? Camp of Saints, anyone?
Anyway, these guys are raising some pretty interesting questions, at the very least!
Just because someone is a radical doesn't mean he always has his head up his ass. Sometimes a radical is the just the only one nuts and ballsy enough to say what's really true. Everyone else has been brainwashed by whatever the Zeitgeist of the culture is.
In case they are still in business, here's where you order. Fight Republican dirty tricks! Become a Weather Underground supporter today! Haha.

Haha.
